farming

Agriculture was born in Mesopotamia, with the domestication of wild plants. With the passage of time, improvements were introduced, such as those introduced by the Muslims (irrigation). With the discovery of America, they began to  cultivate cocoa, corn… Already with the 20th century, the Green Revolution, the fumigation and mechanization of crops take place. Currently, 80% of European land is cultivated, where the predominant crops are wheat and corn.

                                           Associated problems

As agriculture is the basis of the food consumed today, more than five million hectares are cultivated worldwide, however, worldwide, there are more than 800 million people who are hungry in the world. This hunger is mostly created by wars, since these destroy all kinds of public sanitation. Therefore, the first goal of the millennium will try to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger in the world. At OMAG, we encourage public policies to eradicate hunger in the world, in addition to signing an agreement with all member countries in 2016, where social policies were agreed to eradicate hunger.

The fact that in 2050, we will exceed 9.7 billion people in the world, means that we have to increase food production, and there are factors that hinder this increase, such as climate change, which destroys entire crops. Due to this factor, OMAG commits member countries to incorporate sustainable agricultural policies that reduce climate change.
